Meaning: is acting in anticipation of future problems, needs, or changes. 

Pronunciation: /prō-ˈak-tiv/

Example: 
She has been pro-active in the support of cancer research. (She is anticipating needs or problems, and acting on them!) 

Note: 
Not to be confused with active, which describes an action or physical movement. For example, he is an active kid. (He's moving around a lot).
